    Integrating with LinkedIn

    Setup Guide

Sync LinkedIn messages and conversations into your CRM for unified communication tracking.

What is LinkedIn integration and when should you use it?

LinkedIn integration syncs your LinkedIn messages and conversations into your CRM. Instead of switching between LinkedIn and your CRM to track outreach, all LinkedIn activity appears alongside email and other communication in one timeline.

Use this if you do B2B outreach on LinkedIn. It's particularly useful when you're managing multiple conversations and need to see the full context before responding. It also helps when team members need visibility into LinkedIn outreach without accessing your personal LinkedIn account.

How most teams handle LinkedIn today

Most sales teams keep LinkedIn conversations separate from their CRM. They'll log important messages manually, but most activity stays in LinkedIn's interface. This creates gaps in the communication history.

The problem is context switching. When you're looking at a contact in your CRM, you see email history but not LinkedIn messages. You have to open LinkedIn separately to check conversation status, which breaks your workflow.

Another issue is team visibility. If someone else needs to see LinkedIn outreach history, they either can't access it or you have to forward messages manually.

    How Lumenbase handles LinkedIn integration

Lumenbase uses a browser extension that runs while you're on LinkedIn. The extension syncs conversations in the background and links them to contacts in your CRM based on LinkedIn profile URLs.

Messages appear in the unified Communication inbox alongside email. Each conversation shows the full thread, and you can reply directly from the CRM interface. The extension also enriches contact records with LinkedIn profile data when you create contacts from LinkedIn profiles.

Because it's extension-based, the integration only works when you're actively using LinkedIn in a supported browser. It doesn't require LinkedIn API access, which means it works with any LinkedIn account type including Sales Navigator.

    Setting up LinkedIn integration

    1

    Install the browser extension

The LinkedIn integration requires a browser extension. Currently supported browsers are Chrome and Brave. Navigate to My Settings → Integrations → LinkedIn to see installation instructions.
    2

    Enable sync in settings

After installing the extension, go to My Settings → Integrations → LinkedIn and toggle on LinkedIn sync. The extension will check for active status automatically.
    3

    Use LinkedIn normally

Visit LinkedIn and use it as you normally would. The extension syncs conversations in the background. You don't need to change how you use LinkedIn.
    4

    Verify sync in Communication

Check the Communication section in Lumenbase. LinkedIn conversations should appear alongside email threads. If they don't, check that the extension shows as active in integration settings.
    5

Optional: auto-create contacts from new connections

In the same LinkedIn integration settings, you can turn on auto-create for new 1st-degree connections. The CRM already receives your network as Private Connections; with this on, each genuinely new connection (after you enable it) becomes a Contact — not your entire existing network.
The extension must be active and you must be logged into LinkedIn for sync to work. If you see "Extension not detected" in settings, refresh the page or restart your browser.

    How message syncing works

    Automatic contact matching

When a LinkedIn conversation syncs, the system tries to match it to an existing contact by LinkedIn profile URL. If a match is found, the conversation appears on that contact's timeline. If not, you can manually link it later.

    Conversation threading

LinkedIn messages are grouped into conversation threads, similar to email threads. Each conversation shows the full message history, and you can reply directly from the CRM interface.

    Sync frequency

Messages sync when you're actively using LinkedIn with the extension installed. There's no background polling - sync happens in real-time as you interact with LinkedIn conversations.

    Contact enrichment from LinkedIn

When you create a contact from a LinkedIn profile using the extension, it automatically pulls in available profile data:

    • Name and headline
    • Company name and current role
    • LinkedIn profile URL
    • Location (if available)

This data populates the contact record, saving you from manual data entry. You can still edit any fields after creation.

    Practical use cases

    B2B outreach campaigns

When running LinkedIn outreach campaigns, sync all conversations to see engagement rates and response patterns. Track which messages get replies and which don't, all within your CRM.

    Team collaboration

If multiple team members work with the same prospects, LinkedIn conversations become visible to everyone. No need to forward messages or grant LinkedIn access - the conversation history is already in the CRM.

    Unified communication view

See all touchpoints with a contact in one place. If someone emails you and also messages on LinkedIn, both appear in the same timeline. This gives you complete context before responding.

    Common mistakes and misunderstandings

    Expecting automatic background sync

The extension only syncs when you're actively using LinkedIn. It doesn't run in the background or sync historical messages automatically. If you want to sync old conversations, you need to visit them on LinkedIn while the extension is active.

    Not matching contacts correctly

Contacts are matched by LinkedIn profile URL. If a contact doesn't have a LinkedIn URL in their record, messages won't auto-match. Make sure to add LinkedIn profile URLs to contact records for automatic linking.

    Browser compatibility

The extension only works in Chrome and Brave. If you use Firefox or Safari, the integration won't be available. This is a limitation of the extension platform, not the CRM.

    Privacy concerns

Only conversations you can see in your LinkedIn account are synced. The extension doesn't access private messages you can't see, and it doesn't sync data from other LinkedIn users' accounts.

    Troubleshooting

    Extension not detected

    1. Verify you're using Chrome or Brave browser
    2. Check that the extension is installed and enabled
    3. Refresh the Lumenbase settings page
    4. Try restarting your browser
    5. Check browser extension permissions - the extension needs access to LinkedIn

    Messages not syncing

    1. Ensure sync is enabled in integration settings
    2. Verify the extension shows as active
    3. Visit LinkedIn and open the conversations you want to sync
    4. Check that contacts have LinkedIn profile URLs for auto-matching
    5. Manually link conversations if auto-matching fails

    Contacts not matching

If LinkedIn messages aren't linking to contacts automatically, check that the contact record has the correct LinkedIn profile URL. You can add or update the LinkedIn URL in the contact's profile, then manually link the conversation if needed.

    Monitor, network directory, and Today

Beyond inbox sync, Lumenbase includes LinkedIn Monitor (Labs and dashboard),My Connections and Added Profiles under Directory, and LinkedIn drafts on the Today page. Those flows all depend on the same extension and Codex monitoring settings where applicable.

See LinkedIn Monitor, My Connections, and Added Profiles for routes, setup, and how Today uses LinkedIn comment and DM suggestions.
